A great film I saw recently was this one:

This is England

http://www.thisisenglandmovie.co.uk/#

which has the most realisitic depiction of 80's UK I've seen, great story, great vibe, it captured the community spirit and the stupidity of Racism brilliantly, it made me nostalgic for a time when people were a lot more connected in the UK before the scientific and systematic destruction of our industry, identity and the family unit. But it also reminded me of the power of friendship.

the only criticism is it seemed to lost its bottle a bit at the end, but if you want to know what 80's England was like, or if you lived through it and remember it like I did, then you will get some laughs and reminders and nostalgia from this film. The PTB didn't seem to like this film either, which is a good sign it hit a nerve.

8 out 10

Very Happy
I also thought Children of Men was outstanding too

I have seen this film, and it makes me angry. Thank god the 80's is over, and I feel that Asians should arm themselves with guns to teach these bastards a lesson. I have a Indian grandfather, but I look and feel British more than this scum. My husband really enjoys doing the football terraces, I ask him why but he don't answer.
My kind of films are the old 1930's Universal horror/mysteries.

Eyes Wide Shut - While watching this for the first time years back, the movie had an aura of emptiness that I could not explain. Incompletion, secrecy... My mum pointed out that Stanley Kubrick, the producer had died suddenly while filming. Ahhhhh!! So that is it.... ?Smile

The Washingtonians - Masters of Horror released this recently and guess what?! George Washington's on the cover of the DVD with a bloody grimace! Literally!!! Surprised Yes, this film is about the cannibalistic endeavors of the nation's forefathers and decendants! Gory! They especially like young meat! Ugh! Not for the squeamish!

I loved Eyes Wide Shut, I hope they release the Directors cut one day, apparently they cut a load out of that film.

THE STRAIGHT STORY - by David Lynch. The story of Alvin who is getting old and his eyesight is going and he can't stand the thought of people driving him around. When he discovers his estranged brother has suffered a stroke he decides to make the journey by the only means of transport available to him - a lawn mower.
Hundreds of miles, six weeks and several brakdowns later Alvin arrives at his destination'

The straight story is a wonderful film, a friendly, funnny and warm film devoid of any pretention + outstanding performances by Richard Farnsworth and Sissy Spacek. Unusually conventional film for David Lynch too. Love it.

PANS LABIRYNTH - Brilliantly done fairy tale, moving and awe-inspiring. I went to the cinema twice to see this on the big screen and loved it.
